About the JHU CTY Program
The Johns Hopkins University Talent Search Program (JHU CTY) identifies, assesses, and recognizes the academic talents of highly able young people across the country and around the world. To qualify for the program, students in grades 2-6 are required to take the SCAT test. Students in grades 7 and 8 take either the SAT or the ACT. These tests establish a much higher "ceiling" than the grade-level exams children normally take. Both tests are generally taken by college-bound high school juniors and seniors. More detail is available directly from the Johns Hopkins University CTY website.
Many of the MWSM students successfully participate in this program. We believe that our main program prepares our students well for the SCAT requirements, and no additional preparation is required. For older students, SAT preparation targeting the January SAT test in the 7th and 8th grades is embedded in our curriculum sequence for the advanced classes. In addition, we offer SAT preparation workshops targeting the January SAT test date.
