About MOEMS
MOEMS (Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools)
is a national contest that has been in existence since 1977.
Its goals, as stated on www.moems.org website, are: (1) to stimulate enthusiasm and a love for Mathematics; (2) to introduce important Mathematical concepts; (3) to teach major strategies for problem solving; (4) to develop Mathematical flexibility in solving problems; (5) to strengthen Mathematical intuition; to foster Mathematical creativity and ingenuity; (6) to provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting
challenges.
The contests are administered 5 times a year in November – March
at participating schools all over the country. Cumulative awards based on all 5 contests are awarded nationally
by MOEMS after the last contest of the year. It is therefore
critical that participating team members attend as many of
the 5 contests as possible in order to maximize their chance
of an award.
MOEMS is administered at two levels: Elementary Division (grades 4-6) and Middle School Division (grades 7-8).
